Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wasn’t '100 per cent sure' about Alexandre Lacazette upon arrival at Arsenal
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has admitted he wasn’t “100 per cent sure” about Alexandre Lacazette upon his arrival at Arsenal in January.
Aubameyang and Lacazette came up against one another during their days in Ligue 1, playing for St Etienne and Lyon respectively, and the former feared he wouldn’t see eye-to-eye with his new Arsenal teammate.
But despite such apprehensions, the Gabon international has revealed that Lacazette played a key role in helping him settle into life at the north London club.
“My friend Lacazette was at Lyon when I was at St Etienne,” Aubameyang told Arsenal’s official club website.
“He’s a player I appreciate and was good for me when I arrived here as he’s a nice person, very positive.
“I wasn’t 100 per cent sure about him when I came here as there were some Lyon players I didn’t get on well with but he wasn’t someone I had problems with when I played against them.
“I’m really happy to get to know someone so positive and he helped me settle into the dressing room.”
The pair were named alongside one another for the first time in Arsenal’s trip to Newcastle but, despite some encouraging play, were unable to prevent Arsene Wenger’s side succumbing to a disappointing 2-1 defeat at St James’ Park.
