CADILLAC — While there’s been some challenges in finding dry courts and days above 40 degrees this spring, the Petoskey girls’ tennis team finally enjoyed a solid stretch of competition last week.

Petoskey, now led by first-year head coach and former Northmen, Erin Williams (Clutter), completed a three-match week, meeting Cadillac, Ludington and Traverse City St. Francis.

A 6-2 loss came against St. Francis, which was then followed by a 4-4 tie with Ludington in Cadillac and a 7-1 loss to the host Vikings.

While Petoskey picked up a pair of losses and a tie, Petoskey’s No. 1 singles player, Katya Peck, earned herself a 3-0 week.

Peck earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over TCSF, topped Ludington in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, then earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Cadillac.

Petoskey’s doubles lineup also had three different teams earn wins during the week.

The busy stretch on the court sets up another ahead for the Northmen, with Traverse City Central visiting on Tuesday, May 2 and Traverse City West making the trip up on Thursday, May 4, both in Big North Conference matches.

SOFTBALL

Gaylord at Petoskey

PETOSKEY — The six-game win steak the Petoskey softball team had built up came to a close late last week, though it would have been pretty impressive for the Northmen to keep it going.

Welcoming in Division 2 No. 2 ranked Gaylord, Petoskey took losses of 13-0 and 25-1 against the Blue Devils.

Petoskey collected just one hit in the 13-0 opener, as Kenzie Bromley doubled.

In game two, just two hits came Petoskey’s way, as Bromley singled and hit a home run for the lone run of the game.

Sammy Wodek took the loss in the circle over four innings for Petoskey.

Now 7-8 overall on the season and 0-2 within the Big North, Petoskey returns to BNC action at Traverse City Central on Tuesday, May 2.
