Philadelphia Eagles will have to decide draft route very soon

Despite picking near the middle part of the first round in this year’s NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles we’re not a mid table team last season. While the team did play well in runs and streaks, its overall consistency was off on both sides of the football. In need of both depth and talent at multiple positions, the Eagles will have a complex question when deciding their draft strategy.

The most important decider from that question will be what route the Eagles take with their first round selection. Many avenues could be taken after all. Will the team go for the best available prospect? What about going for need? If the team does select a player based on need, which positions top the list for highest need on this roster?

Plenty of questions currently exist for this team. Few answers look to be available outside of the internal structure of the organization. Heck, I doubt that they even have a firm grasp on what route they will take during the NFL Draft. However, with so many positions of need of this roster at the moment, I doubt that they will get this years pick wrong.

To me though, this year’s first round pick comes down to one simple factor. Out of the available wide receivers, cornerbacks, and offensive line prospect, whichever is seen as best at that moment, should be taken by this team. All three areas are major areas of need at the moment for Philly. Addressing them with a first round pick would help this team build talent and depth, something it desperately needs.

While the Eagles could change these evaluations during free agency by adding some talented players at multiple positions, Philadelphia needs a lot of help and has very little in the way of spendable cap space. Though the team could address some issues during free agency, their is no way they can fix all of their holes on this roster.

With the NFL Draft closing by the week and the evaluation process about to heat up with the arrival of the NFL Combine, we are about to enter the Draft portion of the NFL calendar. For the Philadelphia Eagles to rebound and improve next season, they must get this part of the year right. If they fail to do so, it will be a long season next year for the Philadelphia Eagles.
