Will Zalatoris WDs from AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am with COVID

Will Zalatoris withdrew from the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Tuesday morning after he tested positive for COVID-19, the PGA Tour announced.

The news comes just days after Zalatoris slipped in a playoff at the Farmers Insurance Open, where he would have claimed his first career win on Tour.

It’s unclear how long Zalatoris will be out, if he is vaccinated or if he is experiencing any symptoms. He was replaced by Greg Chalmers.

Zalatoris was just inches away from claiming his first career victory at Torrey Pines on Saturday night.

After holding a share of the lead headed into the final round, Zalatoris set himself up with a birdie putt on the par-5 18th for the win. His putt, though, was just left.

“I fought like hell all day … I thought the putt I hit on the 72nd hole, I thought I made it,” Zalatoris said Saturday night. “I just needed a hair more speed.”

List, who had been waiting nearly two hours in the clubhouse, then played his best golf of the day and tapped in a birdie of his own — which gave him his first career Tour win.

Zalatoris, the tour’s reigning Rookie of the Year, does now have back-to-back top-10 finishes under his belt after a T6 finish at The American Express. The 25-year-old had eight top-10 finishes last season — including a runner-up performance at The Masters, a T6 finish at the rescheduled U.S. Open and a T8 finish at the PGA Championship.

After this week, the Tour will wrap up its west coast swing with a stop at the Waste Management Phoenix Open and then the Genesis Invitational before the Honda Classic kicks off on Feb. 24 in Florida.
