PFF: Buffalo Bills’ WR room is eighth-best in NFL
The Buffalo Bills have a set of wide receivers that sit amongst the NFL’s best.
But they’re quite at the top of the mountain, according to Pro Football Focus.
The football analytics outlet continued their position-by-position rankings and at wide receiver. Buffalo’s unit = clocked in at No. 8 overall when compared to every other NFL team head-to-head.
That slotted the Bills in as a Tier 2 team in terms of PFF’s categories listed.
Here’s how PFF broke down Buffalo’s receivers:
Emmanuel Sanders and Cole Beasley are out in Buffalo, leaving Gabriel Davis and Jamison Crowder to step up and replace their production. Davis performed well all last season (81.5 PFF grade), saving the best for last with over 200 receiving yards and four touchdowns in Buffalo’s postseason loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. He’ll step in as the No. 2 outside option opposite Stefon Diggs, while Crowder replaces Beasley in the slot. Crowder ranks eighth in the NFL in slot receiving yards since 2019 despite dealing with some of the worst quarterback situations in the league with the New York Jets.
While the Bills do have Diggs, placing Buffalo in the second level of wide receiver rooms seems far. The Bills simply have a question or two that needs answering.
First, Davis will be the clear cut second option for quarterback Josh Allen now. He’s starting, something he has done before.
But in his first two seasons, Davis did not get an opportunity to start from Day 1. That will be the case in 2022, so he has to answer the bell for an entire season.
Then there’s Crowder… which is a question that looks more like: Crowder? Isaiah McKenzie? Or Khalil Shakir?
While Crowder was signed in free agency, McKenzie knows the system and was re-signed this spring by the Bills, who then went on to draft Shakir. A rookie is always a wild card and we’ll see who rises to the surface as the most-consistent playmaker on the inside for Allen next season.
