Petersburg beats Tucker Co.; Keyser, Fort Hill, East Hardy win; Hampshire splits

Apr. 17—HAMBLETON, W.Va. — No. 2 Petersburg scored seven runs across the first four innings of an 8-2 road win at Tucker County on Wednesday.

The Vikings (15-5) were led by Sam Colaw who went 4 for 5 with four singles.

She also pitched a complete game, allowing six hits, two unearned runs and one walk with eight strikeouts.

Shyane Tawney, Addison Kitzmiller and Blair Loy each had a pair of hits.

Petersburg scored two runs in the first, one in the second and third, three in the fourth and one in the sixth.

Tucker County scored both of its runs in the sixth inning.

Ava Shaffer led the Mountain Lions with two hits including a double.

The Vikings head to Robert C. Byrd for a doubleheader on Friday. They'll face RCB at 3:30 followed by Washington at 6 p.m.

No. 3 Keyser 9, Grafton 1

KEYSER, W.Va. — Rylee Mangold threw a six-inning no-hitter for No. 3 Keyser in a win over over Grafton on Wednesday.

Mangold only allowed four walks and one unearned run with 13 strikeouts.

She also led Keyser with two hits, four RBIs and a walk.

Mangold hit a two-run home run in the first inning that made the score 3-0.

The Golden Tornado (13-7) scored three in the first, four in the fourth and two in the sixth.

Keyser played at Frankfort Thursday evening.

Fort Hill 12, Turkeyfoot Valley 2

CUMBERLAND — MaeLeigh Plummer threw six shutout innings for Fort Hill in a double digit win over Turkeyfoot Valley on Wednesday.

Plummer only allowed one hit, an earned run and four walks with 10 strikeouts.

She also went 2 for 4 with four RBIs including an inside-the-park home run in the fourth inning that scored two runs.

The Sentinels (5-5) scored three runs in the first, four in the third, two in the fifth and sixth and one in the seventh.

Turkeyfoot's two runs both came in the fifth inning.

Fort Hill played at Northern on Thursday.

East Hardy sweeps high scoring doubleheader

LURAY, Va. — East Hardy earned its first wins of the season in wild fashion, sweeping a doubleheader over Luray on Wednesday.

The Cougars (2-12) won game one 15-10 and game two 19-13.

The teams combined for 57 runs and 26 hits across the two games.

In the opener, Addison Armentrout hit a two-run inside-the-park home run to center field that made the score 5-0 in the second.

The Cougars scored five in the second, two in the third and fifth and six in the fourth.

Despite Luray committing six errors, only one led to a run.

Out of East Hardy's 15 runs, only eight were earned for Luray's pitchers. Of Luray's 10 runs, only five were earned.

Gracie Hershman led the Cougars with three hits and five RBIs.

Armentrout and Chelsea Mills each had two hits and three RBIs.

Despite the offensive shootout, Luray only had one hit.

In the second game, Luray committed 11 errors that led to five runs.

Of East Hardy's 19 runs, only eight were earned against Luray's pitchers. Of Luray's 13 runs, only six were earned against the Cougars.

Mills had three hits, Madison Strosnider, Jace Thompson and Jaylynn Combs each had two for East Hardy.

Mills and Strosnider drove in three RBIs while Thompson drove in two.

East Hardy heads to Keyser for a doubleheader on Friday.

The Cougars face the No. 3 Golden Tornado at 2 p.m. followed by North Marion at 4 p.m.

Hampshire splits doubleheader

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — Hampshire split a doubleheader with Berkeley Springs on Wednesday, getting the 8-0 shutout in six innings in the first game before taking game two 13-12.

In the first game, Berkeley Springs scored two in the first and never looked back.

Marley Heath led the Indians with three hits and an RBI.

Alaira Harrington went four shutout innings, allowing five hits and no walks with five strikeouts.

The Trojans (6-15) had five different players with a hit.

In the nitecap, Hampshire scored eight in the fourth and five across the final two innings, but it was almost not enough for the win.

The Indians scored nine runs across the final two innings.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Trojans committed three errors that led to four runs.

The third error made it a one-run game after Hampshire led 13-6 entering the inning.

Chazalynn Keller, Natalie Sions, Hailee Jenkins and Ava Call each had RBI hits in the fourth for the Trojans.

Call and Sions each drove in two RBIs as part of an eight-run inning.

Berkeley Springs also committed a two-run error.

Call had three hits and four RBIs, Jenkins had two hits and two RBIs.

Dakota Strawderman was one of four Trojans with a hit, but drove in three RBIs.

Hampshire hosts Musselman on Friday at 5 p.m.
