Pensacola Catholic, Northview, Escambia baseball teams add to win streaks | AREA ROUNDUP

The Northview, Pensacola Catholic and Escambia baseball teams all expanded on their win streaks on Thursday, including the Crusaders, who earned a victory for coach Richard LaBounty's 750th career win as head coach.

Here's a roundup of games that happened on Thursday, March 28.

Baseball

Northview 9, Pine Forest 8: A late run in the top of the seventh inning put the Chiefs on top.

Northview scored twice in the opening frame to start things off, before tacking on a run in the top of the third. Then the Eagles came alive, exploding for seven runs in the fourth stanza. Northview responded right away with five runs the next inning.

Pine Forest tied the game in the bottom of the sixth with a run, before Northview claimed victory with a run in the seventh and shutting out the Eagles in the bottom half of the inning.

Colby Pugh led Northview with a pair of hits, adding four RBIs and a run. Jase Portwood singled with a pair of runs. Brady Smith tacked on a hit and an RBI. Grayson Sheffield (3), Jayden White (2) and Kalen Jurey all plated runs.

Smith threw 3.2 innings on the mound, striking out five batters. He allowed five hits, seven runs and a walk. In 3.1 innings, Jackson Bridges recorded nine strikeouts, surrendering a hit, a run and three walks.

Al Leatherwood posted two hits and a run to pace Pine Forest. Xavier Taylor also had a two-hit night. Bryant Mason tallied a double with a run. Eli Brown and Colton Swiers both recorded a hit with a run and two RBIs.

Dakota Knapp, Jamarion Johnson, Ja'len Rawls and Char'son Floyd all plated runs, while Rawls tacked on an RBI.

Swiers threw 4.1 innings on the mound with three strikeouts. He allowed three hits, six runs and three walks. Mason, in 2.2 innings, fanned four batters, allowing one hit, three runs (two earned) and three walks.

Pine Forest (4-9) hosts Pensacola on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Northview (6-6) goes to Blacksher (Alabama) on Friday at 2 p.m.

Pensacola Catholic 5, Holmes County 3: The Crusaders made things interesting in legendary head coach Richard LaBounty's 750th career win. Pensacola Catholic won in extra innings for the milestone.

Both teams scored a run in the first inning before Pensacola Catholic took a 3-1 advantage after the third inning. Holmes County tied the game in the bottom of the fifth, and no one could muster enough offense to send a runner home.

That was until Pensacola Catholic got two runners across the plate in the ninth inning to secure victory after keeping the Blue Devils off the board in the bottom half of the frame.

Parker Granse recorded two hits with an RBI for the Crusaders. Chris Rembert doubled and scored a run. Brock Clayton singled with an RBI. Rhyland Richards tacked on a hit.

Colton Guillot (2), Gavin Howard and Presley Moseley all plated runs, while Moseley also added an RBI.

Moseley also earned the win on the mound with 4.1 innings pitched, striking out three batters and allowing two walks. In four innings, Gabriel Mercado fanned three batters, surrendering two hits, a run and a walk. Ezekiel Rycroft, in 0.2 innings, struck out one batter, allowing three hits and two runs.

Pensacola Catholic (14-1) hosts Mountain View (Georgia) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Escambia 12, Davidson (Alabama) 4: The Gators got revenge over Davidson after falling to the Warriors earlier in the year.

Escambia led 4-0 after the second inning, just for Davidson to tie the game in the bottom of the inning. But that'd be all the Warriors could muster as the Gators ran away. They scored a run in the fifth, six more in the sixth and then tacked on one more run in the seventh.

Colin Hanks recorded a three-hit night with two RBIs and a run. Ethan Pardue, also with a three-hit performance, added a double with two runs and two RBIs. Marcus Days also put up two hits with a double. Clayton Sanders ripped a triple and a single with three RBIs and two runs.

Tucker Nix singled with a run and an RBI. Anthony Hall doubled with two runs. Jonathan Edgar posted a single with a run. Jordan Luckie hit a double with two RBIs. Christian Stone, also with a double, tacked on two runs and two RBIs. Taivyn Anderson and Ryan McVay both tacked on singles.

Reid Shiver plated a run.

Pardue threw 5.2 innings on the mound, striking out nine batters, allowing three hits and two walks. In 1.1 innings, Joshua Lipscomb struck out three batters and surrendered two hits, four runs and a walk.

Escambia (12-3) plays Harrison County (Kentucky) on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Softball

Navarre 8, Niceville 3: The Raiders have now won three in a row after beating Niceville.

Navarre led 2-1 after the first inning, before piling on four more runs in the second and another pair in the third to take an 8-1 advantage. Niceville got two runs back in the bottom of the sixth, but the Raiders thwarted any sort of rally.

Natalia Taylor led the Raiders with three hits in the game, including a home run, with three RBIs and a run. Taylor Jefferson also recorded a multi-hit night with two singles, adding a pair of runs. Calyn Rounsaville and Renee Hester each had a single with a run. Lily Reaver posted a hit and an RBI. Karsyn Riddle sing.ed

Adison Mobley (2) and Libby Lewis both plated runs.

Kayden Riddle pitched a complete game, throwing seven strikeouts in the win. She surrendered six hits, three runs (one earned) and three walks.

Navarre (7-6) goes to West Florida on Monday for a 6:30 p.m. game.

Boys lacrosse

Gulf Breeze 14, Niceville 4: After falling in overtime to end last week, the Dolphins returned to the win column with a 10-goal victory.

Quarter-by-quarter scores were not provided.

Pete Snider (3 goals, 2 assists) and Austin Mickler (3 goals, 2 assists) both led the Dolphins with five points in the game. Wesley Morrill (1 goal, 3 assists) tacked on four points. Tate Claudio had a three-goal hat trick.

David Bates, Austin Boyd, Ben Cozart and Parker Harrelson all scored one goal apiece. Noah Christie posted an assist.

In net, Cody Lee and Jackson Stephens split time. Lee stopped nine shots allowing two goals in one half of action. Stephens, in the other half, allowed two goals, making seven saves.

Gulf Breeze (13-2) hosts South Walton on Monday at 7 p.m.

Navarre 15, Fort Walton Beach 2: The Raiders snapped a three-game losing streak in dominant fashion.

After an initially close first quarter, with Navarre leading, 4-1, that's when the Raiders took off. They scored 10 goals in the second frame, while shutting out the Vikings, to bring a 14-1 advantage into halftime. Both teams scored again in the third quarter to round out the final, 15-2, score.

Elijah Busby led Navarre with eight points on the night with a goal and seven assists. Leland Erickson wasn't far behind at five goals and an assist for six points. Trevor Birchett posted a three-goal hat trick and an assist for four points. Landon Nary (2 goals, 1 assist) and Rio Jimenez (2 goals) both added multii-point nights.

Bryce Newmans and Jacob Green each recorded a goal. Tre Corzine, Travis Snider and Scott Welton tacked on assists.

Liam Swift, in net, made eight saves on 10 shots.

Navarre (4-8) has a double-header on Saturday against Leon at 11 a.m. and Lincoln at 12:30 p.m.
