Penn State TE Brenton Strange drafted by Jaguars with no. 61 pick

One of Penn State’s top offensive players from last season has come off the big board at the NFL draft. Tigh end Brenton Strange was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the 30th pick in the second round of the 2023 NFL draft on Friday night.

Strange was Penn State’s third-leading receiver in 2022. He accounted for 362 receiving yards and five touchdowns in the Penn State offense. Strange ended his career at Penn State with 755 career receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. Strange was named a third-team All-Big Ten player in 2022 and put on a solid showing at the NFL combine to pad his draft outlook a bit.

Strange emerged as the top tight end on the roster as Penn State looked to replace Pat Freiermuth following the 2021 NFL draft. Strange had been on track to be the next go-to tight end in the offense, and he seized that opportunity.

Strange will now be in a position to be groomed as a reliable option for Jaguars franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence, and he’s joining a team that is already with some playoff experience after last season.

Strange was a member of Penn State’s Class of 2019 which also included 2023 second-round draft pick Joey Porter Jr. and 2022 draft picks Jaquan Brisker and Jordan Stout.
