Penn State Snapshot Profile: No. 91 Dvon Ellies

Going into the 2022 football season, Nittany Lions Wire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Penn State roster.

Over the preseason, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for James Franklin this season.

Dvon Ellies is one of the handful of players who will help to provide some solid depth on the defensive line in 2022. After getting a chance to step into a more significant role at times last season, especially in the bowl game, Ellies could be more likely used as a backup option this season behind a healthy PJ Mustipher. But Ellies is a player that could provide a spark on defense any time he steps on the field as well.

The return of a healthy [autotag]PJ Mustipher[/autotag] and the addition of Maryland defensive end transfer [autotag]Demioun Robinson[/autotag] will help make for a stacked defensive line for the Nittany Lions in 2022. With expectations of Mustipher being an anchor at defensive tackle alongside the continued development of [autotag]Coziah Izzard[/autotag], the middle of the line looks to be pretty much set for the fall.

Ellies would be one of the top options to fill in for either player due to injury or as part of a rotation for defensive coordinator [autotag]Manny Diaz[/autotag]. While we don’t anticipate Ellies will be a starter for Penn State, fans should expect to hear his name during games at some key moments this fall.
