Penn State football snapshot profile: No. 93 Spencer Perry

Going into the 2022 football season, Nittany Lions Wire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Penn State roster.

Over the preseason, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for James Franklin this season.

Penn State has developed a good ability to quickly develop and prepare defensive linemen to step in and perform. This year’s biggest questions for the defensive line come on the ends with a starting job up for grabs. Redshirt freshman Spencer Perry may not be in the mix for a starting job in 2022 but he is a player that will continue to work on his development to add some more depth at the position this fall.

Depth Chart Overview

Syndication: Journal Sentinel

Penn State is situated pretty well at the top of the depth chart at defensive end in 2022. With [autotag]Nick Tarburton[/autotag] (pictured, above) locking down one starting spot on one side of the line and [autotag]Adisa Isaac[/autotag], [autotag]Chop Robinson[/autotag], and [autotag]Smith Vilbert[/autotag] all making cases for consideration on the opposite side, Penn State has some good options to work with on the end of the defensive line.

That means Perry will get another season to continue to be developed and improve in a few areas to provide Penn State with even more depth at the position. After redshirting his entire 2021 freshman season, Perry is not a player that is being counted on to have a major impact on the defense in 2022. Instead, he can make his biggest impact as a developmental player in practices and help prepare for gameday in other ways.
