Penn State football injury report: Chop Robinson out again. Who else will miss Maryland?

COLLEGE PARK, Maryland — This Penn State football team, one in need of a recovery of sorts before next weekend's national showdown with Michigan, will be without two of their most important players today.

Nittany Lions' star pass rusher Chop Robinson − a former Maryland player − traveled with the team ahead of this afternoon's key Big Ten East match with the Terps in SECU Stadium. But he, along with No. 2 receiver Tre Wallace, was listed as "out" in the league's weekly pregame availability report.

Robinson will miss his second-straight game since suffering an upper-body injury at Ohio State. Fellow defensive end Amin Vanover was "questionable" in the report − he has not played since the loss to the Buckeyes, either.

Wallace may be a substantial loss. He was hurt early last week against Indiana and appeared in the second half wearing a sling. He had just recovered from some type of lower-body injury early in the season and, despite his promise and potential, has just 15 receptions this fall.

This should mean an expanded role for senior transfer Dante Cephus, who has yet to fulfill his big promise coming from Kent State. Cephus only had 11 catches coming into today.

Robinson's presence certainly was missed last week against Indiana, where Penn State's highly-regarded pressure defense registered just two sacks (both by blitzing cornerbacks) before a game-clinching play late. Though Robinson has only registered nine tackles this season, five were behind scrimmage with three sacks.

Robinson, from Gaithersburg (Quince Orchard High) is one of more than a dozen Lions with Maryland roots. (He transferred from the Terps to PSU in the spring of 2022). Defenders Curtis Jacobs, Dani Dennis-Sutton, Dvon Ellies and Mason Robinson all attended McDonogh High in Owings Mills.
