What is Peacock? Why Penn State's Week 2 game vs. Delaware is NBC streaming-exclusive

Of all of the changes in Big Ten broadcasting this season, one of the most significant is the relegation of select games to Peacock, NBC's streaming service.

Nine Big Ten games are being aired on streaming only this year. In Week 1, it was Michigan vs. East Carolina. Week 2 will see Penn State hosting Delaware. This means fans in Pennsylvania will not be able to see the Nittany Lions, coming off a 38-15 win over West Virginia, on TV. They will instead have to stream the game vs. the Fightin' Blue Hens.

Peacock and other streaming services have worked to get a foot in the live-streaming industry, and the Big Ten's recent media deal was an opportunity to do just that. Many Big Ten teams are going to have individual games on the service, including Michigan State's bout with the Washington Huskies next week.

Here is what to know about the Peacock streaming service, including how to access it, what it costs, and what games will be on it in the future.

What is Peacock?

Peacock is NBC's exclusive streaming service, named for NBC's peacock-esque logo.

The service has two streaming plans — Premium and Premium Plus — both of which offer live streaming of Big Ten games. Those currently looking to join do not get access to the free entry plan. The plans cost $5.99 a month for Premium and $11.99 for Premium Plus. However, it is worth reiterating: Both plans will have access to pertinent Big Ten games.

Several devices support the streaming service, including Roku, Amazon Fire devices, Google TV, Playstations, Xboxes, and just about any other device that streams video through apps. A complete list can be found here.

Peacock is part of the Big Ten's $7 billion media rights deal that was inked in 2022. The deal will see games spread across Fox, CBS, NBC, and Peacock.

How to watch Penn State games on Peacock

Penn State's game vs. Delaware is only available via Peacock. The Nittany Lions' full 2023 broadcast schedule has yet to be determined but, as of now, they have no further games scheduled for Peacock and just one for NBC: Nov. 24's bout against Michigan State (which will also simulcast on the streaming site).

What Big Ten games are on Peacock?

When the Big Ten announced its media rights deal with CBS, Fox and NBC/Peacock, it mentioned nine Peacock-exclusive regular-season football games as part of the deal. It also includes as many as 47 regular-season men’s basketball games and 30 regular-season women’s basketball games.

“We are incredibly excited to be partnering with (former commissioner) Kevin Warren and the Big Ten Conference on this robust package of sports,” Pete Bevacqua, Chairman of NBC Sports, said at the time. “With 'Big Ten Saturday Night' and 'Sunday Night Football' headlining each fall weekend in primetime on NBC and Peacock, along with our historic Notre Dame Football partnership, NBC Sports will be the home of premier games in college football and the NFL.

"In addition, with the rights to a wide range of Big Ten events, Peacock and NBC Sports will be a year-round destination for the best in college sports."

The next two football games in 2023 are Delaware at No. 7 Penn State in Week 2 and No. 10 Washington at Michigan State in Week 3.
