Paul signs new deal with Clippers
Chris Paul did not keep the Los Angeles Clippers waiting.
The All-Star point guard signeda new contract just after midnight ET on Wednesday, the first day that NBA free agents can officially sign with teams.
Paul and the Clippers started spreading the good news immediately, tweeting pictures of him signing the contract with his young son at his side.
"DONE DEAL!!!" Paul posted on Instagram. "#GodIsSoGood #ClipperNation"
The contract is for five years and approximately $107 million, CBSSports.com reported. It includes an opt-out clause for the fifth year.
There were rumblings after the Clippers exited the playoffs that Paul, an unrestricted free agent, might consider going elsewhere. It was mentioned that he possibly entertained the idea of teaming up with Dwight Howard in a move to Atlanta. But the Clippers' hiring of Doc Rivers as coach last month appeared to solidify Paul's commitment to staying in Los Angeles.
The 28-year-old Paul averaged 16.9 points, 9.7 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 2.4 steals during the 2012-13 regular season.
A busy offseason for the Clippers has included the additions of J.J. Redick, Jared Dudley, Darren Collison, Ryan Hollins, Matt Barnes and Rivers.
