Paul Finebaum predicts a bleak future for Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M if changes aren’t made
Texas A&M’s 2023 football season is rocky after one of Jimbo Fisher’s most talented and experienced teams fell 48-33 on the road against the Miami Hurricanes, who may or may not be a resurging program. Still, nonetheless, the Aggies’ performance last weekend has helped resurface the “Jimbo Fisher hot seat” debate, and honestly, it’s somewhat warranted.
One of Fisher’s more vocal critics, college football analyst Paul Finebaum, has completely changed his tune after previously approving of Fisher’s hiring of new Aggies OC Bobby Petrino, and even though the offense has improved tenfold from last season, Texas A&M’s horrific defensive performance against the Hurricanes’ has once against placed the spotlight on Fisher’s inability to lead the program through adversity.
However, an out-of-conference loss this early in the season isn’t worth overreacting about before SEC play begins. During an interview on The Matt Barrie Show, Finebaum provided a glimpse into Fisher’s future with the Maroon & White if swift improvement isn’t witnessed during the rest of the 2023 slate.
At the end of the season, if A&M is looking at a mediocre record, that $75 million will not be a factor,” Finebaum stated. ” … I don’t think [Fisher] will be able to survive if they don’t reach a certain mark and it’s a little bit hard to tell on September 10 what that number is, but if they are losing games like this on a consistent basis, then he has no future.”
Like many of us in Aggie media, predicting a 9-3 or 8-4 outcome seemed feasible, and even after the Miami loss, both outcomes or possibly better, are still in reach if the defense improves, the offensive line gels and quarterback Conner Weigman continues to produce at a high-level week to week. If Fisher fails to turn things around once again, his future in College Station will, of course, be in question more than ever before.

It’s a basic formula, but after Alabama’s recent loss to Texas and LSU’s embarrassing neutral site beat down at the hands of Florida State, the SEC West is wide open and still in grasp if the formula mentioned above is utilized, starting with the vising UL Monroe Warhawks on Saturday afternoon.
Texas A&M will return to Kyle Field to take on Louisiana Monroe on Saturday, Sept. 16, as the game will air on the SEC Network at 3:00 p.m. CT.
