Feb. 4 (UPI) -- Pat Mahomes Sr., the 53-year-old father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, was arrested over the weekend for driving while intoxicated.

Court documents for Texas' Smith County show that the elder Mahomes was arrested by the Tyler Police Department on Saturday for "driving while intoxicated" and was released the next day on a $10,000 bond. Records indicate that it was at least his third DUI charge.

The incident comes ahead of his son and the Chiefs facing the San Francisco 49ers on Feb. 12 in Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas.

Pat Mahomes Sr. is a former professional baseball pitcher in the MLB. He played from 1992 to 2003 for the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Texas Rangers Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates, according to the MLB website.
