In partnership with Gatorade, Shedeur Sanders makes lasting impact on Denver youth organization
Shedeur Sanders recognizes that his role as one of college football’s biggest names goes well beyond what he produces on fall Saturdays.
With limited “downtime” before preseason camp begins, Colorado’s starting quarterback visited Fred Thomas Park in Denver to present quite the gift to the N.E.D Falcons Youth Organization during their practice on Monday evening. In partnership with Gatorade and Good Sports, Sanders surprised the Falcons with about $45,000 worth of equipment and uniforms to benefit their football and cheerleading programs. The youth organization, which supports over 200 youth athletes, also received a $5,000 Gatorade Equity in Sports Community Grant.
Sanders later joined in on a few practice drills, much to the delight of the young football players.
“I wanted to do something real, something genuine,” Sanders said. “I didn’t want to do anything where you post on Instagram and see somebody giving back just ’cause. No, I wanted to do something where it brings back memories of myself when I was a kid.”
Sanders agreed that his involvement at the event shows a positive result of the NCAA allowing college athletes to benefit from their name, image and likeness.
“I haven’t done anything like this before,” Sanders said. “I was so locked in and focused about getting my foundation, which is establishing who I was as a player. Now I got a good idea of what it takes and just having real game experience, so I know what I’m able to do off the field. I’ve been talking to my dad (CU head coach Deion Sanders) about it just in general. I want to give back to the kids and we talked to a brand that was finally able to do that.”
