Par for the Course | Katherine Rae Iarussi Foundation Golf Outing approaches

The annual Katherine Rae Iarussi Foundation Golf Outing is set to tee off at Paradise Lake Golf Course in Suffield on May 20.

Providing scholarships for Rootstown High School seniors, the foundation’s outing begins with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.

Four-person scramble teams play 18 holes of golf with cart and enjoy lunch at the pavilion.

The day concludes with dinner, prizes and a live auction as well as a 50-50 raffle as teams discover the champions.

The first 36 paid teams will compete in the popular outing. Registration is $500 per four-person team and may be paid via Venmo @krifoundation25 or via check to the KRI Foundation, 4724 Campbellsport Road, Ravenna, OH 44266.

Kent State's Jordan Gilkison advances to final U.S. Open qualifying round

Kent State University men’s golf team member Jordan Gilkison advanced to the final U.S. Open qualifying round following his two-under-par effort at initial U.S. Open qualifying at Westfield Country Club.

Gilkison grabbed the fourth of six qualifying spots to advance to the next round.

Zach Mandry of Solon, an Ohio University alumnus, earned medalist honors, firing a 66, good for four-under-par and a one-stroke lead over Ken Keller, graduate of the Youngstown State University men’s team.

Adrianna Mineo, Mitchell Tyger, Manisha Girn have solid outing at NOPGA Junior Kick-Off Tournament

Local golfers, Adrianna Mineo and Mitchell Tyger, both of Kent, and Manisha Girn of Aurora had solid outings at the Northern Ohio PGA Kick-Off tourney to the junior series held at Old Avalon Country Club in Warren.

In the boys 16-19 age division, Tyger earned a top-10 finish, firing a 38 that included one birdie over nine holes in the rain-shortened tournament.

Girn took home third place, carding a 41 in the girls 16-19 age division and Mineo fired a 50 on her way to fifth place.

Randy Dietz competes at PGA Professional Championship

Randy Dietz of Tallmadge, a Kent Roosevelt and Kent State University alumnus, qualified through to the third round of the PGA Professional Championship before firing a 73 in his final round, missing the cut for the final round by one stroke.

Dietz concluded his tournament at Twin Warriors and Santa Ana golf clubs in Santa Ana Pueblo, N.M., in 71st place out of 312 players.

Dietz, the teaching professional at Windmill Golf Center in Macedonia accomplished the fete with his wife, Danielle Dietz, on the bag.
