The Carolina Panthers are trading star running back Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49ers, per multiple reports.
The 49ers are sending multiple Day 2 draft picks to Carolina in the deal, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Less than two weeks ahead of this year’s trade deadline, McCaffrey’s name became a popular one in the rumor mill after the Panthers fired head coach Matt Rhule last week.
The former top-10 pick now heads back to the Bay Area, not far from where he played his college football at Stanford.
It’s rebuilding time for the Panthers, who now look ahead to their next regime without their top offensive weapon, while the 49ers add another dynamic playmaker to their offense alongside Deebo Samuel.
