Panthers star DE Derrick Brown signs massive extension: Report

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (CHARLOTTE SPORTS LIVE) — The Carolina Panthers have signed their young star defensive lineman to a contract extension, Charlotte Sports Live has confirmed.

The deal is worth a reported $96 million and is a four-year extension, according to ESPN Insider Adam Schefter.

The Auburn product who Carolina drafted as the 7th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft has been one of the few bright spots on the club, despite the franchise’s recent struggles. Brown was named to the Pro Football Writer’s Association All-Rookie Team and was a 2023 Pro Bowler.

The Panthers do not have a pick in this month’s upcoming NFL draft. They’ve also recently lost Brian Burns, another Pro Bowler, who has signed on with the New York Giants.

Last month the organization introduced its new head coach, Dave Canales, who comes by way of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Carolina also introduced its new general manager Dan Morgan, who was previously serving under fired Scott Fitterer.

The NFL will release the full upcoming season’s schedule in May.
