Panthers restructure contract of CB Donte Jackson
There are all kinds of paper being moving around at Bank of America Stadium this week.
In their latest move of the 2023 free agency period, the Carolina Panthers have restructured yet another contract. This time, the pact belongs to cornerback Donte Jackson.
Jackson signed his current deal almost a year to the day—inking a three-year, $35.1 million agreement back on March 19, 2022. The then 26-year-old was testing the waters of the open market at the time, only to head back to shore with the organization that set sail with him.
That voyage began in the second round of the 2018 draft, when the Panthers selected the speedy LSU defender with the 55th overall pick. He’s since, of course, played each of his five NFL seasons in Charlotte—amassing 244 combined tackles and 14 interceptions.
His latest season, unfortunately, ended early—as Jackson sustained a tear of his Achilles tendon during the team’s Week 10 win over the Atlanta Falcons.
Thus far, the Panthers have restructured the contracts of right guard Austin Corbett, right tackle Taylor Moton, safety Xavier Woods and punter Johnny Hekker. They’ve also reworked the existing deals of linebacker Shaq Thompson and tight end Ian Thomas.
Carolina can save as much as $3.92 million off of Jackson’s adjustment.
