Packer track and field takes first in shot put

Feb. 29—MOULTRIE — Bryce Toomer, with his 46 foot 1.5-inch shot put throw, was the sole Packer to receive a first place finish during Wednesday's Tift County quad meet.

The Packers received a total of 32 placements within the first 10 positions by the conclusion of the final event.

In addition to Toomer, there were three other Packers who placed during shot put.

JarTavius Flounoy received third with a throw of 44-7.5.

With 40-7 was fifth place finisher Johnny Clay, who was followed by Rafael King in sixth place with a throw of 36-5.

The discus saw three Packers place.

In third was Toomer, with a throw of 114-7. Hot on his tails was fourth place finisher Flounoy with 114-6.5.

Clay also placed in discus, receiving a seventh place position with a throw of 98-8.

Two other field events saw the Packers with single digit placements: high jump and long jump.

In the long jump, third place went to Ja'Shar Kinsey with a distance of 20-0.5, and sixth place was Isaiah Wingfield at 18-10.5.

Two Packer athletes tied for fifth during the high jump with a height of 5-6: Arbashaun Curry and Kinsey.

Edging them both out was Wingfield at 5-8.

All other high placements for the Packers came through track events.

In the 100-meter dash, Joshua Alford received third place with a time of 11 seconds 62 milliseconds.

Following him was: Jalen Clayton in fifth place at 11.64, Samuel Oneal in sixth place with 11.76 and seventh place finisher Ameri Knighton with a time of 11.87.

Four athletes also placed during the 200-meter dash.

Second place went to Dy'Quavian James with a time of 22.88. In fourth was Alford with 23.62. Sixth place went to Clayton with a speed of 24.02. Finally, in eighth place was ZaRian Robinson with a time of 24.29.

During the 400-meter dash, with a time of 54.64, Jaquez Collier received second place. Right behind him in third was Robinson with 56.76.

Gage Dorsey took seventh place after a finishing time of 57.65.

Placing in the top 10 during the 800-meter run were seventh place finisher Jayln Green with a time of 2:28.25 and eighth place finisher Andrick EsQuivel at 2:30.28.

Both the hurdle distances the Packers competed in, 110-meter and 300-meter, saw placements in the top 10.

Chris Williams received a third place finish in the 110-meter when he finished in 17.93.

Behind him was Jahni King in sixth with a time of 18.79 and seventh place finisher Alfonso McNeil with 20.22.

McNeil also placed ninth in the 300-meter hurtle with a time of 46.93.

Relay races also saw success for the Packers, with both the 4x100 and 4x200 receiving a second place finish.

The 4x100 was completed in 44.05, and the 4x200 in 1:32.93.

With a third place finish, the Packers ran the 4x800 in 9:40.77.

Continuing their season, the next track and field meet will be the first Colquitt County hosts. On Wednesday March 6, the Packers will continue to fight for those higher placements in the events.
