Pacers' Myles Turner ruled out of Nets game with sprained finger

INDIANAPOLIS -- Pacers center Myles Turner was listed as questionable for Wednesday's game against the Nets in Brooklyn with a "right second finger sprain" after a momentarily gruesome injury in the Pacers' win over the Nets on Monday night. Pacers coach Rick Carlisle told reporters in Brooklyn in pre-game that he Turner will not be available, according to a social media post from Bally Sports sideline reporter Jeremiah Johnson.

Turner was fouled attempting a dunk late in the second quarter and was immediately in serious pain. Pictures on social media showed the finger hanging crooked off his hand. He went to the locker room to have the finger put back in place, and returned to shoot two free throws left-handed (making one). The Pacers ruled him out for the second half.

Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said in his post-game press conference that x-rays for a fracture were negative and that Turner had suffered a dislocation. He said it was too early to tell if Turner would miss any further time with the injury.

Turner scored nine points on 3 of 5 shooting in the first half, hitting 2 of 4 3-pointers. He also grabbed six rebounds and blocked five shots, adding to his franchise career record.

Turner is averaging 16.8 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game this season and is shooting 51.8% from the floor, 35.1% from 3-point range and 77.3% from the free throw line.

Turner posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account after the game that he'd be willing to trade his rarest Lego set for a right index finger.

Backup center Jalen Smith would presumably move into Turner's starting spot. Isaiah Jackson, who has seen extended time as the third-string center, would take on Smith's minutes. Smith is averaging 10.1 points and 5.6 rebounds in 17.4 minutes per game this season while shooting 60.1% from the field and 43.9% from 3-point range. Jackson is averaging 6.6 points and 4.0 rebounds in just 12.9 minutes, shooting 67.1% from the field.

Two-way player Oscar Tshiebwe, the former Kentucky All-American and the G League Rookie of the Year, was listed as available on the injury report, meaning he is in Brooklyn to provide the Pacers with additional depth at center.
