Pace baseball, flag football seasons end after tight losses in playoffs | AREA ROUNDUP

The weather caused some havoc throughout the northern parts of Florida, forcing regional baseball games and state beach volleyball matches to be postponed.

But, a couple contests still went on as scheduled. Both the Pace baseball team and Pace flag football team saw their seasons end on Friday in the playoffs.

Here's a roundup of area contests that happened on Friday, May 10.

Baseball

Buchholz 3, Pace 2: A fight to the bitter end, the Patriots fell in the Region 1-6A semifinals at top-seeded Buchholz.

Pace opened the scoring in the top of the second inning after Tanner Owens laid down a suicide squeeze bunt with the bases loaded, sending Ty Aguilar home to score.

Buchholz eventually plated a run in the bottom of the second to tie the game, followed by another run in the third and fifth innings. The Patriots started to rally in the top of the seventh after the first Pace batter was hit by a pitch, with Tanner Owens pinch-running. Grant Walters singled to center field, putting runners on first and third base.

Walters stole second, and after an error from the catcher, Owens scored. But Nash Pires grounded out for the final out of the game, and Buchholz held on for the win.

Full stats from Pace were not reported from the game.

The Patriots end the 2024 season with a 20-7 overall record, after starting out 0-4, and a District 1-6A crown.

Flag football

Palmetto 12, Pace 6: The Patriots' deep run into the state playoffs came to a close in Tampa.

Going against Palmetto, ranked second in the state, the Patriots found themselves in a low-scoring battle. Palmetto opened the scoring with a touchdown late in the second quarter. The Panthers tacked on one more in the third frame.

Pace erased the shutout in the final stanza, but couldn't find the equalizer.

Stats were not yet reported from Pace.

The Patriots end the 2024 season with a 16-6 record and a District 1-2A championship in tow.
