Owen's Asante Martin's 38 points leads WNC Week 6 winter sports top performers

Here are the WNC athletes who have had big performances this week in winter sports.

Saturday

Girls basketball

Sara Larios, Asheville Christian Academy: Larios scored 24 points, including seven made three-pointers, in a 69-36 loss to High Point Christian Academy.

Ryann Hernandez, Asheville School: Hernandez scored 30 points, leading the Blues to a 57-16 win over Clover Garden School.

Jaza Wilson, West Henderson: Wilson recorded 10 points and nine rebounds in a 42-40 loss to North Buncombe.

Boys basketball

Zymicah Wilkins, Christ School: Wilkins put up 19 points with nine rebounds and five assists in a 94-58 victory over Cherokee (Ga.).

Lleyton Thomas-Johnson, Christ School: The senior scored 11 points with 10 rebounds for a double-double in the Greenies' win.

Caiden Brewer, East Henderson: Brewer's 32-point, 10-rebound double-double led the Eagles in a 76-62 victory over Erwin.

Brady Nix, East Henderson: Nix recorded 16 points.

Wyatt Taylor, East Henderson: Taylor added 14 points in the effort against Erwin.

Rylan Parkins, McDowell: Parkins tallied 29 points in an 87-82 loss to Pisgah.

David Olivo, McDowell: Olivo added 18 points in the effort against Pisgah.

Jackson Lyda, West Henderson: Lyda recorded 19 points and 11 rebounds, earning a double-double and leading the Falcons past North Buncombe, 70-61.

Grant Putman, West Henderson: Putman scored 16 points with seven rebounds.

Tyler Nash, West Henderson: Nash added 14 points and eight rebounds.

Friday

Girls basketball

Jaelyn Jacoby, Asheville High: Jacoby scored 15 points, leading the effort for the Cougars in a 41-36 win over Smoky Mountain. Jacoby also grabbed seven boards.

Boys basketball

Zymicah Wilkins, Christ School: Wilkins had 15 points and 12 rebounds in Christ School's 67-66 loss to North Gwinnett (Ga.).

Declan Brown, Reynolds: Brown tallied 22 points and 14 rebounds, recording a double-double as Reynolds beat Franklin 70-35. Brown also had five assists.

Kaelan Gilliland, Reynolds: Gilliland matched Brown with 22 points in the winning effort vs. Franklin. He added five rebounds and three blocks.

Custer Prenger, Smoky Mountain: The sophomore scored 15 points with five rebounds but the Mustangs fell to Asheville High, 70-47.

Thursday

Girls basketball

Ava Shook, Hayesville: Shook's 15 points helped Hayesville defeat Highlands, 36-31.

Lilly Neill, Mountain Heritage: Neill's 12 points led Mountain Heritage to a 58-22 win over West Henderson.

Jaza Wilson, West Henderson: Wilson's 13 points in a 58-22 loss to Mountain Heritage led all scorers.

Boys basketball

Jamari Briggs, Christ School: Briggs led the Greenies with 16 points, but they fell to Eagles Landing (Ga.) 66-55.

Zach Skogen, Murphy: Skogen had 15 points and 16 rebounds for a double-double in a 59-50 loss to Union County (Ga.).

Jackson Lyda, West Henderson: Lyda's 32 points led West Henderson to a 79-50 victory against Mountain Heritage.

Truitt Manuel, West Henderson: Manuel recorded 14 points and eight assists.

Tuesday

Girls basketball

Carolina Hollifield, Avery County: Hollifield's 20 points and six rebounds led the Vikings past Draughn, 66-63.

Aubrey Haley, Franklin: Haley scored 14 points in a 74-39 win over Tuscola.

Vega Deyton, Mountain Heritage: Deyton recorded 17 points with five rebounds to lead the Cougars past Rosman, 59-38.

Alissa Cheek, Rosman: Cheek's 24 points were a game high, but Rosman fell 59-38 to Mountain Heritage.

Boys basketball

Tre Crite, Brevard: Crite's 21 points propelled the Blue Devils to a 75-64 victory vs. Roberson.

Baker Buchanon, Brevard: Buchanon scored 17 points against Roberson.

Carson Wallace, Erwin: Wallace scored 25 points, leading the way in the Warriors' 59-52 win over R-S Central.

Max McClure, Franklin: McClure tallied an 18-point, 13-rebound double-double helped Franklin to a 55-43 win over Tuscola. He also had six assists and five steals.

Eli Elliot, Rylan Parkins, and David Olivo, McDowell: The Titans' trio each scored 19 points in a win over South Caldwell, 80-62.

Dominick Rummler, Murphy: Rummler scored 15 points, helping Murphy to a 48-45 win over Swain County.

Asante Martin, Owen: Martin scored 38 points with eight assists, but Owen fell to Mitchell, 92-86.

Jack Wesley Burk, Owen: Burk had 23 points in Owen's loss to Mitchell.

Bryce Adams, Robbinsville: In a 43-35 win over Andrews, Adams tallied 14 points and six rebounds.

Monday

Girls basketball

Jaelyn Jacoby, Asheville High: The senior tallied 19 points and seven rebounds, leading the effort in a 56-32 victory vs. Hendersonville.

Xander Wachacha, Murphy: Wachacha scored 22 points as Murphy beat Highlands, 73-45.
