OU football tailgating returns to Lindsey Street for 2023 season

NORMAN — Tailgating on Lindsey Street is back.

OU announced changes to its tailgating policies ahead of the 2023 season opener against Arkansas State on Sept. 2 at Gaylord Family — Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

While many of the policies remain the same, the opening of public tailgating locations along the south side of Lindsey Street between Asp and Jenkins Avenues — just across the street from the stadium — is a significant change.

Tailgating may only take place in the grass between the Lindsey Street curb and the north side of the sidewalk.

Once the heart of the OU tailgating scene, Lindsey Street was closed to tailgaters beginning in 2017.

The school announced that additional tailgating expansion opportunities are being reviewed ahead of the Sooners’ move to the SEC in 2024.

Another change to the tailgating policy involves set-up times.

Outside of the Lindsey Street areas, space may be occupied beginning at noon the day before home games, though stakes can not go into the ground until 5 p.m.

In the Lindsey Street areas, tailgate setup can not begin until 7 a.m. the day of home games, though space may be occupied beginning at 5 p.m. the night before.
