OU football lands David Stone, five-star defensive lineman, in massive recruiting win

Upgrading OU’s defensive line has been one of Brent Venables’ biggest recruiting priorities as the Sooners make the move to the SEC for the 2024 football season.

A week before OU’s final season in the Big 12 begins, the Sooners picked up a massive addition for the 2024 class.

Five-star defensive tackle David Stone, an Oklahoma City-area native playing for IMG Academy in Florida, announced his commitment to the Sooners on Saturday, choosing OU over Miami and Michigan State.

Stone (6-foot-4, 282 pounds) announced his decision on Instagram at halftime of IMG’s game against St. Joe’s Prep.

Stone played at Del City before transferring to IMG after his sophomore season.

Stone is the No. 6 overall player in the 247 composite rankings and the second-ranked defensive lineman behind only Missouri commit Williams Nwaneri, who chose the Tigers over OU earlier this month.

Stone supplants running back commit Taylor Tatum, who is at No. 32, as the Sooners’ top-ranked commit of the class.

Stone would be the highest-ranked defensive lineman to sign with the Sooners since Tommie Harris in 2001. Harris was also ranked No. 6 overall in the class according to the 247 composite.

Stone is the second defensive tackle in the class, joining Jayden Jackson, one of his IMG teammates. Jackson committed to the Sooners in mid-July.
