O'Tey runs to first at Mason Bulldog invite

The Sturgis track and field teams competed at the Mason Bulldog Invitational on Friday.

There were plenty of teams competing, 14 in all. Chelsea brought home first place in the girls tournament with 91.5 points, Corunna won the boys with 96.5 total points.

Sturgis finished seventh for the girls with 53 points, the Trojans finished 14th for the boys with 11 points.

Despite competing on a big stage, Keyanna O’Tey still ran to first place in the 100 dash. Her time of 12.26 seconds paced the field in the event. It was the only first-place finish for the Trojans on the day.

Jacqueline Flores finished ninth in the 200 at 28.93 seconds. Sydney Bir ran to fifth place in the 400 run at 1:04.98, Kinder Smith finished seventh overall at 1:05.57.

Tessa Hatt finished third overall in the 800 run at 2:29.55. Berkley Holtz ran to second place overall in the mile run at 5:13.37.

Finishing ninth in the 100 hurdles was Juliet Mendoza, her time was 18.35 seconds.

For the 300 hurdles, Kylie Brooks ran to fifth place at 53.55 seconds, Kenzie Eicher finished seventh overall at 54.57 seconds.

The two-mile relay saw Sturgis finish third. The team of Hatt, Bir, Emma Garbine and Holtz ran a time of 10:22.73 in that event. Sturgis was fourth in the 800 relay with Garbine, Riley Eicher, Smith and O’Tey posting a time of 1:54.31. In the 400 relay, Sturgis’ team of Tenley Banaszak, Smith, Hannah Garbine and O’Tey finished ninth at 55.24 seconds.

Haleigh Kelley finished third in the shot put at 28-11 feet. Eleena Kelley came in 10th at 25-7 feet.

For the boys, Brock Fergison brought home second place in the high jump at 6-2 feet. Carson Eicher came in ninth place for the high jump at 5-6 feet.

The 400 relay saw Sturgis come in sixth place. The team of Rasean O’Tey, Brandin Kelley, Kaicee Kyle and Brenden Myers ran a time of 46.24 seconds in that race. The 800 relay saw O’Tey, Eicher, Zachary Green and Brock Fergison come in 10th place at 1:39.65.
