OSU men's basketball's head coaching search 'has been a mess,' per report

The coaching search continues in Stillwater.

After firing head coach Mike Boynton on March 14, the OU men's basketball team is still looking for his replacement. And as time passes, a recent report by CBS Sports' Matt Norlander shed some light on the situation.

Norlander reported Sunday that a source familiar with the process said "the search has been a mess."

It's not hard to see why OSU is struggling to make a hire. The Cowboys went 12-20 (4-14 Big 12) this season, and they haven't made the NCAA Tournament since the 2020-21 campaign.

OSU has also seen two starters enter the transfer portal. Star guard Javon Small and four-star center Brandon Garrison are already out the door.

OSU watched a few potential candidates accept head coaching jobs elsewhere this past weekend. Florida Atlantic's Dusty May got hired by Michigan on Saturday, while Drake's Darian DeVries agreed to a deal with West Virginia on Sunday.

Norlander also said he has heard a few names emerge as candidates. That list consists of Texas A&M's Buzz Williams, South Florida's Amir Abdur-Rahim and Atlanta Hawks assistant coach Ronald Nored.
