Would Oregon transfer Kel’el Ware fit at Colorado?
One of the hottest names now available in the transfer portal is Kel’el Ware, a former five-star recruit who just wrapped his freshman season at Oregon.
Zachary Neel of Ducks Wire wrote that Ware’s departure was expected, whether via him declaring for the NBA draft or entering the portal as he did Monday. That likely became the more viable option as he averaged just 15.8 minutes, 6.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per game this season.
Ware’s elite talent makes almost any college basketball program a possibility, and Isaac Trotter of 247Sports broke down a few teams that would offer the best potential fit. Colorado, which has lost Lawson Lovering, Nique Clifford and Quincy Allen to the portal, was included.

Colorado coach Tad Boyle coached the same Team USA U18 team that Ware played on last summer. Colorado big man Lawson Lovering already entered the transfer portal, so there’s a starting job at the 5 wide open for Ware to fill. Colorado is expected to be a player in the transfer portal this offseason, but retention will be a huge thing to watch, too. Keeping studs like KJ Simpson and Tristan da Silva would improve Colorado’s sell for a dazzling talent like Ware. A Big Three of Simpson, da Silva and Ware would have Colorado back on the map in a hurry. Oh, and five-star wing Cody Williams is on the way to Boulder, too.
Reports have also emerged that CU has contacted Northern Colorado transfer Dalton Knecht, another one of the bigger names in the portal.
