Oregon Ducks name new football assistant strength and conditioning coach

The Oregon Ducks football program announced Monday that it has hired Taylor Porter as the new assistant strength and conditioning coach.

Porter joins the Ducks after spending the last four seasons as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Michigan State. He comes to Eugene with a combined 15 years of experience between the NFL and Power 5 programs in college football.

“We are excited to welcome Taylor and his wife, Liz, and their daughter, Minnie, to our Oregon family,” head coach Dan Lanning said in a press release. “Coach Porter is a terrific addition to our strength and conditioning staff, and his experience at both the college and professional levels will be extremely valuable for our program. I’m looking forward to seeing him pour into our student-athletes on a daily basis and help them become the very best they can be both on and off the field.”

Porter got his start as a strength and conditioning intern at TCU before moving on to Louisville as a graduate assistant. After earning his Master’s degree from Louisville, Porter joined the Houston Texans as a strength and conditioning intern before going to Nebraska as a football strength and conditioning intern in 2013.

Porter returned to the NFL in 2015, where he worked for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and then the Cleveland Browns. In 2016, he joined the Tennessee Titans for the first of three seasons as a strength and conditioning assistant, before spending one season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Porter arrived at Michigan State in March 2020, and in 2021 he helped the Spartans to an 11-2 record.

“I’m excited to be joining the Oregon football strength and conditioning staff and can’t wait to get to work with these guys,” Porter said. “My family and I are grateful for the opportunity that Coach Lanning and Coach Love have made possible. I’m looking forward to collaborating with the performance team, and continuing the championship culture that Oregon football embodies.”
