Oneonta tops Sidney in I-88 Showdown in O-Town

Dec. 18—The Oneonta Boys and Girls Club was the site of a special contest between the Oneonta and Sidney boys basketball teams dubbed the I-88 Showdown in O-Town.

The Yellowjackets came out on top 63-45 thanks to a 14-0 run to start the game. OHS led 26-6 after the first quarter and 45-10 at halftime.

Brady Carr led the scoring with 14 points while Maddox Imperato scored 12 and Britten Zeh finished with nine. Seven different Oneonta players made a three-pointer with the team hitting eight long-range shots in all.

Sidney's Conner Van der Sommen finished with a game-high 22 points in the loss.

Oneonta will be at Cobleskill-Richmondville Friday while Sidney will visit Unatego/Franklin the same day.

Cooperstown 67, New York Mills 41

Cooperstown went on the road Monday and defeated New York Mills 67-41.

Charlie Lambert had a game-high 24 points to go with five assists and four steals.

Cooper Coleman, meanwhile, had 15 points and four assists, Cooper Bradley had eight points and 11 rebounds and Brody Murdock had 14 points and four assists.

Cooperstown (3-3 overall, 2-2 league) will host Unatego/Franklin Wednesday.

Richfield Springs 72, Gilbertsville-Mount Upton 38 (Friday)

A pair of big games from Dylan Hosford and Bradyn Dunckel helped the Richfield Springs boys defeat Gilbertsville-Mount Upton 72-38 Friday.

Hosford had a game-high 27 points while Dunckel made six three-pointers en route to a 26-point performance. Landen Schultz added 11 points.

Devon Hartwell and Noah Pain led G-MU with 15 and 11 points, respectively.

Richfield Springs will host Canastota Thursday while G-MU will visit Schenevus Wednesday.

Edmeston 62, Cherry Valley-Springfield 35 (Friday)

Edmeston earned an impressive 62-35 win over Cherry Valley-Springfield Friday in Tri-Valley League action.

Izek Richards and Landon Wust each scored 16 points in the win while Gavin McEnroe chipped in nine points.

Dalton Stocking was CV-S's leading scorer with 13 points.

Edmeston will be at Unadilla Valley Tuesday while CV-S will host Schenevus Friday.

Bainbridge-Guilford 53, Walton/Downsille 40 (Friday)

Bainbridge-Guilford opened its Midstate Athletic Conference slate Friday with a 53-40 win over Walton/Downsville.

James Hogroian poured in 30 points to lead the Bobcats while Isaiah Hampton scored 11 points in the win.

Seth Hunter had 14 points for Walton/Downsville while Tyler Reed pitched in eight.

B-G (5-2) will host Greene Friday while W/D will be at Delhi the same day.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

South Kortright 48, Edmeston/Morris 45 (Saturday)

The South Kortright girls defeated Edmeston/Morris 48-45 to win the Joan Martin Tournament in Morris Saturday.

Addy Eckert led SK with 25 points in the win while Madysen Reeves scored 11. Eckert was named to the all-tournament team while Hannah Ransford, who scored five points in the title game, was named the Tournament MVP.

Molly Rifanburg paced E/M with 15 points while Hannah Wist and Haylie Lund each scored eight points. Wist and Lund were both all-tournament selections.

South Kortright will host Stamford/Jefferson Wednesday while E/M hosts Worcester Tuesday.

Owego Free Academy 65, Oneonta 32 (Saturday)

The Oneonta girls fell to Owego Free Academy 65-32 Saturday.

Hayden LeFever led OHS with 15 points, Selene Wellman scored 12 points and Kylie Carr finished with nine rebounds and five steals.

Oneonta will host Delhi Wednesday.

The Oneonta wrestling team took first place in Saturday's Coach Ken Harrison Memorial Tournament in Granville.

Twelve OHS wrestlers made it to the finals in their weight classes with five taking home top honors: Marshall Mahar (108 pounds), Alan Little (145), AlanMichael Rubin (160), Darren Rose (170) and Jayden Zakala (215).

Finishing in second in their respective classes were Clayton Ritter (101), Amari Champen (108), Isaac Gray (131), Beckett Holmes (145), Brighton Logue (152), Reilly Waltz (160) and Nason Renne (285).

Eli Daggy added a third-place finish at 285 pounds.

Oneonta will host Norwich in a dual meet Tuesday.
