One away from a three-peat: Bartram Trail edges Vero Beach in girls lacrosse semifinal

The three-peat dream lives on.

Riding the same pattern that's brought them state championships in 2022 and 2023, Bartram Trail relied on airtight defense and another round of clutch goaltending to edge Vero Beach 6-5 in Friday's Florida High School Athletic Association Class 2A girls lacrosse semifinal.

All-time leading Bartram Trail scorer Ryann Frechette tallied the game-winner early in the fourth quarter for the Bears (17-5), who advance to a 2:30 p.m. Saturday championship game against Tampa Plant at Paradise Coast Sports Complex in Naples.

And just as she did in the 2023 championship game, goalie Maddie Stevens preserved the Bears' lead with key saves in the final minutes, finishing with eight saves in all.

Frechette scored twice for the Bears, while Esa Brenneman and Emily Barnette also had two goals each as Bartram Trail exploited nine Vero Beach turnovers in what was mostly a patient, deliberate contest.

Sophomore midfielder Pressley Carroll scored twice for Vero Beach (16-5).

Bartram Trail is bidding to become Northeast Florida's first-ever team to go back-to-back-to-back in girls lacrosse.
