Olton vs. Farwell, Frenship at El Paso Eastwood highlight bi-district football schedule

The Texas high school football playoffs are upon us. Here's a look at the best bi-district matchups featuring teams from the Lubbock area.

GAME OF THE WEEK

OLTON (7-3) VS. FARWELL (7-3)

It's Groundhog Day. Again.

Second-seed Olton will face third-place Farwell at Wildcat Stadium in Littlefield to open the playoffs. Sound familiar? It should. It's the same situation the teams faced last season, when the Steers won 41-23.

Also familiar: standout running back Corey Stancell is doing big things for Farwell. Jacob Marquez is leading an experienced Mustangs defense.

But there's plenty of different players in this iteration, too.

Olton's Raymond Ramirez and Farwell's Jonathan Armstrong are both in their first year starting at quarterback. Both have excelled as dual threats.

Defense will decide this one, and both are looking for bounce-back performances. The Mustangs surrendered 31 points in a Week 11 loss to Floydada, and the Steers lost to Panhandle while allowing 62.

BI-DISTRICT GAMES TO WATCH

Frenship (8-2) at El Paso Eastwood (9-1)

Prepare for a high-scoring affair. Eastwood, winners of nine in a row, averages 44.3 points per game, and Frenship averages 43.4.

Denver City (6-3) vs. Dalhart (7-3)

Did someone say Groundhog Day? This is also a playoff rematch. The Golden Wolves won 31-21 last season, the second consecutive year Denver City lost in bi-district.

Childress (7-3) vs. Abernathy (5-5)

More familiar foes meet in this one. The Bobcats beat Abernathy 14-7 in Week 1, but the Antelopes seem to have found their footing after winning their past three games.

Sudan (7-3) vs. Seagraves (5-5)

There's a theme this week. Seagraves beat Sudan 21-20 in Week 4. The loss dropped the Hornets to 2-2, but they won five of their last six to grab a share of the district title.

Ropes (6-4) vs. Ralls (7-3)

Ropes is looking for its first 11-man football playoff victory since 1964. Ralls is trying for consecutive trips to the second round.
