Ole Miss basketball lands All-SoCon forward Mikeal Brown-Jones out of transfer portal

OXFORD ― Chris Beard and Ole Miss basketball have made their first transfer portal splash of the offseason.

UNC Greensboro forward Mikeal Brown-Jones committed to the Rebels on Saturday, announcing his pledge via Instagram.

Brown-Jones, rated as the No. 83 player in the portal by 247Sports, exploded onto the scene with a great senior season in 2023-24. He averaged 18.9 pounds and 7.5 rebounds on his way to first-team All-SoCon honors.

At 6-foot-8, he'll also bolster the Rebels' defensive backbone. He averaged just shy of a block per game last season. Though he only attempted two per game, Brown-Jones proved himself to be an efficient 3-point shooter as well, connecting at a 43% rate from beyond the arc. He shot 54% from the floor overall.

Brown-Jones found a home at UNC Greensboro after two seasons at VCU, where he was never a major part of the rotation. The Philadelphia native and IMG Academy product will have one season of eligibility remaining.
