Oklahoma's Dewey Selmon named to 2024 College Football Hall of Fame Class

Jan. 8—The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame named Oklahoma's Dewey Selmon a member of the 2024 College Football Hall of Fame Class on Monday.

Selmon is the 24th former Oklahoma player selected in the College Football Hall of Fame. He played four seasons from 1972-75, winning four Big Eight titles and back-to-back titles from 1974-75.

A product of Eufala, Dewey followed his older brother Lucious to play under former head coach Barry Switzer. Later, the youngest brother, Lee Roy, would join his two brothers to form a dominant trio on the Sooners' defensive front.

Dewey played both defensive tackle and nose guard and was a two-time First Team All-American, earning unanimous honors his senior season.

The 19 players and three coaches named to the 2024 class will be officially inducted to the Hall of Fame on Dec. 10.

"This is a great blessing, and quite humbling, for a little kid to come from Eufaula, Okla., play at the University of Oklahoma and now get to go into one of the most prestigious halls in college football," Selmon said in a statement. "I really take it with a whole lot of honor and humility. It brought tears to my eyes, it really did."

Selmon was inducted in the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame in 2012. Last season, the university unveiled a statue outside of Gaylord Family — Oklahoma Memorial Stadium honoring the three Selmon brothers.

In 1976 he was drafted by Tampa Bay, and played seven seasons in the NFL including six alongside Lee Roy.
