Oklahoma-Florida State softball history: How Sooners have fared against Seminoles in regular season and WCWS

Oklahoma and Florida State softball have become staples at the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The Sooners and Seminoles have even played each other in the WCWS championship series in two of the last three years, including last season when OU swept FSU 2-0 to complete its three-peat. The two teams will square off again this year in the NCAA Tournament, just in the Norman Super Regional instead of the WCWS. Game 1 of the best-of-three-game series starts at 5:30 p.m. CT Thursday and will be broadcast on ESPN2.

The winner of the Norman Super Regional advances to the WCWS. The loser will see their season prematurely. While the No. 2 seed Sooners (52-6) are the heavy favorites over No. 15 FSU (46-14), the Seminoles have an offense averaging 7.51 runs per, which is fifth nationally.

Oklahoma vs. FSU softball history

Oklahoma leads the all-time series 11-8. The Super Regional matchups could be the fourth, fifth, and sixth matchups between the Seminoles and Sooners in the last 14 months. The teams played in last year's World Series but faced off in the regular season at  Marita Hynes Field in Norman. It was the first time either program traveled to the other's home field for a matchup.

The Seminoles will play at Love's Field for the first time, something FSU coach Lonni Alameda ― and former OU player from 1990-92 ― said she was looking forward to.

"I'm excited to see the field," Alameda told the Tallahassee media on Wednesday. "It looks great on TV. I'm really excited to see the group play there. They are a great ball club, and it's going to be a really good opportunity for them."

Oklahoma has won five straight in the series, with all five being played in the state of Oklahoma. The Seminoles longest winning streak in the series was three games.
