OKC Dodgers are no more. Meet the Oklahoma City Baseball Club for now.

The Oklahoma City Dodgers celebrate after the PCL Championship Series baseball game between the Oklahoma City Dodgers and the Round Rock Express at the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City, Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2023. The Dodgers won 5-2.

The Oklahoma City Dodgers brand is no more.

Meet, at least for next season, the Oklahoma City Baseball Club.

The Triple-A organization announced a brand identity change that began immediately this week, dropping the Dodgers nickname. A permanent identity will be revealed after the 2024 season, according to a release.

The club will remain the top minor league affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers as part of the current Professional Development League license.

“For the last nine years, it has been an honor and a privilege to share one of the most iconic brands in all of professional sports,” OKC president and general manager Michael Byrnes said in a release. “However, we’re excited this new era affords us the opportunity to strengthen our connection to our community and reinforce that we are Oklahoma City’s team.”

OKC became affiliated with L.A. beginning in the 2015 season, adopting the same brand as the major league club. The organization was originally known as the 89ers beginning in 1962. In 1998, the team was renamed the RedHawks.

The club has had previous PDL agreements with Houston, Cleveland, Philadelphia and Texas.

As of now, it does not appear the Dodgers are going anywhere. They also have the PDL agreement with Tulsa, the Double-A affiliate.

“Our Triple-A affiliate in Oklahoma City has been an incredible partner over the last nine seasons and we look forward to continuing our relationship with them for many years to come," L.A. general manager Brandon Gomes said in a release.

The team also announced that throughout next season it will celebrate the franchise's history. Every Sunday home game will feature City Celebration jerseys and hats introduced last season as part of the 25th anniversary of Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

During every Thursday home game, the team will wear new 89ers jerseys and hats. More themes will be announced later.
