Ohio State men's basketball opens with Minnesota, hosts Michigan for senior day

Ohio State will open Big Ten play at home against Minnesota, host Michigan on senior day and close the season at Rutgers as the conference has released its schedule for the 2023-24 men’s basketball season.

The schedule, which was slated to be unveiled on the Big Ten Today show on the Big Ten Network, was eventually published on the league’s website as an interview with Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh followed significant conversation about the league’s football season to this point.

Ohio State will open Big Ten play with a Dec. 3 game against Minnesota. It will be a quick reunion for forward Jamison Battle, who spent the last two seasons with the Golden Gophers before transferring to Ohio State during the offseason for his fifth and final year of college basketball.

The Buckeyes will play a second Big Ten game in December when they go to Penn State on the 9th before resuming league play Jan. 3 against Rutgers. Ohio State will then end the regular season at Rutgers on March 10.

Tip times and television broadcast information will be released in the coming weeks.

On the Big Ten Network’s reveal show, Ohio State had three “notable games” as judged by the network: Jan. 15 at Michigan, Feb. 10 against Maryland and Feb. 18 against Purdue.

Ohio State will play five of its 10 Big Ten home games on the weekend: games with Minnesota, Penn State, Maryland, Purdue and Michigan will all be played on Saturday or Sunday. The road date with Michigan will be played on a Monday, the only such game all season.

Ohio State had already released its non-conference schedule piece-by-piece during the last several months. Among the highlights, in addition to a charity exhibition at Dayton on Oct. 22:

*After opening with Oakland on Nov. 6, Ohio State will host Texas A&M four days later in the first game of a home-and-home series the Buckeyes will return on the road next season.

*The Buckeyes will participate in the Emerald Coast Classic, a four-team event held in Niceville, Florida, during Thanksgiving week. Ohio State will open against Alabama on Nov. 24 on the campus of Northwest Florida State College and then will play either Oregon or Santa Clara the following day.

*A Dec. 30 game against West Virginia inside Cleveland’s Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse, home of the NBA’s Cavaliers.
