Ohio State to meet Big 12 foe on the court in Cleveland this season

It’s deep into the offseason for the Ohio State basketball team, but news surfaced today about a future matchup this coming season thanks to a release from the Ohio State Department of Athletics.

According to the release, Ohio State will play against the West Virginia Mountaineers at a neutral site in Cleveland on Saturday, December 30, this year. No venue or exact time has been officially ironed out yet, but when they are made available, we’ll bring them to you.

The Buckeyes and Mountaineers have met a total of 17 times throughout history, with Ohio State leading the all-time series by a narrow 9-8 margin. West Virginia has gotten the better of the Buckeyes as of late, winning eight of the last nine meetings. The last time the two met was in 2019 — also in Cleveland — with West Virginia prevailing 67-59.

Basketball is a little different than football in the scheduling department with games and events sometimes coming to terms before the season rather than years in advance. As OSU’s schedule continues to materialize, we’ll have details for you.
