Ohio State football records lowest-scoring performance vs. Indiana since 1993

In Ohio State's first game without C.J. Stroud since 2020, the Buckeyes' offense had their worst performance against Indiana in nearly 30 years.

Ohio State opened the 2023 season with a 23-3 road win against the Hoosiers, extending a win streak against Indiana that started in 1991.

But the Buckeyes' 23 points were the least the team has put up against Indiana since their 23-17 win against the Hoosiers in 1993.

In Ohio State's 1993 win, the Buckeyes recorded two touchdowns — a Joey Galloway touchdown reception from Bobby Hoying and a Buster Williams touchdown reception from Bret Powers.

Led by quarterback Kyle McCord, who was making his second career start, Ohio State mustered 380 yards of offense, averaging 5.7 yards per play against a Hoosiers defense it has averaged more than 50 points per game against since coach Ryan Day's arrival as offensive coordinator in 2017.

Ohio State had 23 first downs against Indiana Saturday.

McCord completed 20 of 33 pass attempts for 239 passing yards, throwing an interception and no touchdowns.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Devin Brown played in two series for Ohio State, handing the ball off twice to running back Miyan Williams and taking a 3-yard loss for a three-and-out. In the fourth quarter, Brown completed one of his three pass attempts, connecting on a two-yard loss to running back Dallan Hayden.

Ohio State has averaged more than 43.6 points per game in six years under Day's leadership.

Last season, Ohio State recorded a 21-7 road win against Northwestern where the offense recorded 283 yards of offense and 13 first downs.

Ohio State opened the 2023 season with a 21-10 win against Notre Dame, recording 395 yards of offense and 22 first downs.

Since Day became head coach, Ohio State has recorded 29 points or less in nine games, including five losses.
