Ohio State football class of 2023 scouting report: Miles Walker
The Ohio State football recruiting class of 2023 is complete and despite some murmurs of negativity in the crowd, this class is fantastic from top to bottom. One of the studs of this class is the lone three-star recruit in this class, an offensive tackle from the state of Connecticut in Miles Walker from Brunswick School in Greenwich, Connecticut.
Walker is regarded as a top-500 recruit in the country and a top-40 offensive tackle. It is no secret that the consensus lowest-rated prospect in the class is seen as a developmental prospect who is not ready to see the field immediately, but Walker has big-time potential.

Miles Walker looks like a future starting left offensive tackle and has the high intelligence to match the physical upside. Football IQ is an underrated quality in an offensive lineman, but it shouldn’t be due to the reliance on identifying the correct defensive fronts and evaluating where assignments are as quickly as possible. Walker comes from a school that is no slouch in the education department and he was considering both Duke and Vanderbilt to further his education before deciding on Ohio State.
Walker has very quick feet for a man of his size and this should allow him to make an easier transition to pass protection against speed rushers. Walker already has starting-caliber size standing at 6 foot 6 inches and over 280 pounds.

It is a common issue for all recruits, but even more so for a guy coming from the state of Connecticut. The leap in competition from Connecticut high school football to the Big Ten is as large as possible and will likely result in 2023 being a redshirt season for Walker.
We discussed above his ideal size, but his frame does need to fill out with at least another 15 pounds of positive weight. Walker is a really tough prospect to project because he comes from such a small school and will most likely be nowhere ready to play for at least a year.

Breaking It All Down
Jack Mewhort is one of the most underrated offensive linemen in Ohio State history and dominated both in 2012 and 2013. He was named All-Big Ten in 2012, and in 2013 he earned All-American honors before being drafted in the second round of the 2014 NFL draft.
Like Mewhort, Miles Walker has great size and the ability to dominate opponents with a quick and strong punch. Both prospects did a great job abusing defenders and their unique mix of strong hands and long arms make it very hard for defenders to get away. It is not hard to see Walker as a high-end multiple-year starter.
