Stark County-area high school softball annually offers no shortage of talent. Expect that to continue in 2024.
Here are 10 softball players to watch for this season.
Matti Benson
Louisville, sr.
Benson has already signed her National Letter of Intent with the University of Maryland. She holds multiple program records for Louisville, including single-season records for home runs (12), batting average (.609) and hits (53). Benson hit .556 last year with nine home runs, 25 RBIs, 36 runs, 25 steals and 26 walks. Benson is also an acrobatic infielder who is not afraid to put her body on the line to make plays during the course of a game.
Ryleigh Hall
GlenOak, jr.
Hall is a Division I college prospect at shortstop and third base. She's a two-time first-team All-Federal League pick, who also has earned honorable mention All Ohio recognition. Hall hit .515 with nine homers, 29 RBIs, 28 runs and 10 walks. Expect her to remain a force for the Golden Eagles this year.
Audrey Miller
Marlington, sr.
Miller has signed with the University of Toledo. She was an All Ohio selection in 2022. Miller holds the Marlington program records for career home runs (28) and doubles (38). Miller hit .417 with 10 homers, 29 RBIs, 39 runs and 14 walks. She helped the Dukes reach the regional finals last season.
Evelyn Lynn
Canton South, sr.
Lynn led the area in batting average (.692), home runs (15) and RBIs (44) a year ago, according to stats reported to the Repository. Her batting average and RBIs were both single-season school records. Expect Lynn to continue to pile up numbers as the starting third baseman for South this season.
Summer McCaw
Hoover, jr.
McCaw looks to the next in a long line of notable pitchers from Hoover. She pitched the Vikings into the regional tournament as a sophomore and earned second-team All-Federal League honors. McCaw was 9-4 with a 1.46 ERA. She struck out 95 batters in 74 innings. McCaw could be poised to take a big step forward this season.
Camryn Kiefer
Tuslaw, sr.
Kiefer is the returning team MVP from last year. She was first-team All-PAC-7 and second-team All-Northeast district. Kiefer hit .468 with eight home runs and 36 RBIs. Kiefer also was 11-7 as a starting pitcher with 155 strikeouts in 109 innings. Kiefer will play college softball for Marietta.
Sadie Carroll
Hoover, sr.
Carroll has led the Vikings in RBIs each of the last two seasons. Carroll drove in 28 runs last season on the way to helping Hoover reach regionals. She will be a key cog in the Hoover offense once again this season. Carroll will play college softball for Gannon (Pa.).
Olivia Brown
Lake, jr.
Brown is verbally committed to the Akron Zips. She hit .429 with 10 steals last season. Brown is a versatile slap hitter who can play in either the infield or outfield.
Delaney Ellis
Perry, sr.
Ellis is entering her fourth year as a starting middle infielder. She won a state championship with the Panthers as a freshman. Ellis makes consistent contact and has power in her bat. She produced three home runs last year. Ellis has signed with Cleveland State.
Marlee Pireu
Perry, sr.
Pireu brings power to the Perry lineup and a stable glove to the left side of the infield. She had six homers, 27 runs and 10 walks. Pireu has signed to play at Malone next season.
