Official controversy in Texas-Houston? Dana Holgorsen calls 3rd down spot 'horrible'

Texas escaped from TDECU Stadium on Saturday night with a win. While Texas fans are happy to leave the game behind, some suspect officiating has Houston coach Dana Holgorsen and the Cougars faithful quite upset.

On third-and-1 on the UT 10-yard line with just over a minute remaining, Houston running back Stacy Sneed appeared to cross the 9-yard line for a first down. However, a remeasurement led to the referees reversing the call, making it fourth-and-1.

Houston quarterback Donovan Smith's 4th down pass fell incomplete, effectively ending the game. In the postgame press conference, Holgorsen was frank in his thoughts on the spot.

"I think the spot was horrible. I think we got the first down, first and nine on the nine," he said.

"I don't understand review. Every time I think something is reviewable, I can't get them to review it. They say they're looking at it, but I don't know that. If someone can confirm it's as bad as I think it is."

No one will know what would've happened if Houston ended up converting. In the end, Texas won, and the result won't be reversed no matter what. It is worth noting that Texas was penalized six times in the win, while Houston was penalized once.

That won't stop social media though. Even some Texas fans believe that the Longhorns may have gotten away with a poor spot.
