ODU men’s basketball schedule includes Virginia Tech, William & Mary, Norfolk State and new Sun Belt opponents
Games against Virginia Tech, East Carolina, William & Mary and crosstown rival Norfolk State as well as a jam-packed December home itinerary highlight Old Dominion’s 2022-23 basketball schedule, the school announced Thursday.
The Monarchs, returning to the Sun Belt Conference, will play eight league games at home against Arkansas State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia State, Appalachian State, James Madison, Georgia Southern, Southern Miss and Marshall. The Sun Belt Conference Tournament will begin Feb. 28 in Pensacola, Florida.
ODU will face the Hokies on Nov. 17 in the Charleston Classic tournament in South Carolina.
In all, including a Nov. 2 exhibition game against Christopher Newport to start the season, the Monarchs will play eight non-conference games at home.
“We are excited about our non-conference schedule this season,” ODU coach Jeff Jones said. “Playing eight games in Chartway Arena will allow us to build great team chemistry prior to embarking on our inaugural Sun Belt Conference season.”
The team’s first official game will be against Maryland Eastern Shore on Nov. 7 at home. The Monarchs will play non-conference road games against Drexel on Nov. 11 and College of Charleston on Nov. 29.
December includes six home games and none on the road, beginning with a Dec. 3 visit from NSU.
ODU will open the Sun Belt season Dec. 29 at home against Arkansas State. The Monarchs will play the members of the Sun Belt East Division twice and six of the seven West Division members once.
ODU went 13-19 last season, including an 8-10 mark in its final season as a Conference USA member.
