OCC women claim 4th straight MCCC tournament title

Feb. 25—It has been a consistent run of the Ozark Christian women's basketball team being atop the Midwest Christian College Conference.

The Ambassadors have been the best in the conference for four years in a row as they claimed their fourth straight tournament title on Saturday with a 57-38 win over Calvary University.

OCC (18-3) was the top-seeded team in the bracket and Calvary (11-11) was second.

It was a bit of a sluggish start for Ozark as it trailed 12-8 after one quarter of play. But it woke up in the second quarter and exploded for 21 points to take a 29-23 advantage into the half.

The Ambassadors only allowed 15 second-half points to cruise to the win.

They were led in scoring by Clarissa Rice's 11 points. Rice also pulled down 10 rebounds for a double-double. Emmy Colin chipped in 10 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double of her own. Eight different players scored for Ozark in the contest.

Ruthie Dougherty led Calvary with 13 points.

OCC is back in action next week in the NCCAA Southwest Region tournament as it looks to win that and claim an automatic bid into the NCCAA national tournament in March being held in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The regional tournament is being hosted by OCC.
