Oak Hills’ Maurice Parker is the Victorville Chevrolet High School Athlete of the Week
There were 84,566 votes cast this week and it was a landslide for the Victorville Chevrolet High School Athlete of the Week poll winner.
Oak Hills’ Maurice Parker ended with 42.98% of total votes cast by Daily Press readers. The wide receiver received 36,347 votes, beating out five other high school athletes from across the High Desert.
Maurice helped the Bulldogs to a 35-24 victory over Sultana on Oct. 20, catching five passes from Diego Lopez for 177 yards and four touchdowns.
Maurice beat out Academy for Academic Excellence runner Elijah Lovett, who finished with 39.58% at 33, 473 total votes. Elijah had a strong showing at the Mt. SAC Invitational on Oct. 21. Running in the Divisions 3, 4 and 5 Individual Sweepstakes race, Elijah finished 13th overall with a mark of 15:32, which was the best mark of any local runners.
Adelanto’s Mario Smith finished in third place with 6.16% at 5,209 total votes.
The nominees were selected based on performances between Oct. 16 through 21.
Nominations are based on information available to the Daily Press. All high school varsity players from the High Desert can be considered for the ballot.
Nominations must be received for consideration by Sunday morning following that week's games. Anyone can nominate an Athlete of the Week for every varsity sport.
