NY Giants vs. Patriots predictions: Our expert picks for Week 12 NFL game at MetLife

The New York Giants (3-8, last in NFC East) are back home for the first time in nearly a month as they welcome in the New England Patriots (2-8, last in AFC East) on Sunday at 1 p.m. at MetLife Stadium.

Despite a disappointing season, the Giants shocked many when they went to Washington and defeated the Commanders, 31-19, last Sunday at FedEx Field.

The Patriots are coming off a Week 10 bye after an abysmal 10-6 loss to the Colts in Frankfurt, Germany, nearly two weeks ago.

This matchup will look a lot different from the last time these two teams met in MetLife Stadium over eight years ago when the Patriots remained undefeated at 9-0, thanks to a game-winning field goal with one second left to beat the Giants, 27-26.

Now, these two teams enter Week 12 with a combined record of 5-16 and likely competing for a top five overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Our prognosticators are: Art Stapleton (Giants/NFL writer, NorthJersey.com), Bert Bainbridge (sports betting analyst/columnist, NorthJersey.com), Steve Edelson (columnist, APP.com), Vince Mercogliano (Rangers/NHL columnist, lohud.com), Brian Marron (digital producer, NorthJersey.com), Chris Iseman (Rutgers writer, NorthJersey.com), Dave Rivera (sports editor, USA Today Northeast/NorthJersey.com) and Bob Jordan (sports editor, Asbury Park Press/APP.com).

Here are the current standings through Week 11 for our staff members:

Mercogliano: 9-2

Rivera, Marron & Iseman: 8-3

Edelson & Bainbridge: 7-4

Stapleton: 5-6

Jordan: 4-5

No one picked the Giants to upset the Commanders as near 10-point underdogs last week. Do our experts believe the G-Men will pull off the upset for a second straight game?

Here are our staff predictions for this Super Bowl XLII and XLVI rematch at MetLife Stadium:

Art Stapleton

Bill Belichick may have lost a few mph on his fastball, but one thing rings true: his scheming against rookie quarterbacks remains elite. That'll be a challenge for Tommy DeVito and the Giants, as Belichick's all-time record in these matchups is a stellar 24-6. Now, the Patriots aren't a powerhouse by any stretch, and if Big Blue gets out of the gates early defensively, maybe they can control this one. It'll be close, but New England takes this one.

The pick: Patriots 23, Giants 17

Bert Bainbridge

There's a chance this could be the lowest scoring game of Week 12 thanks to two of the most inept offenses facing off in MetLife.

While the Giants tied a season-high with 31 points a week ago, there won't even be that many total points in this one as the G-Men win their second straight contest, pulling off the upset over the Patriots as a home underdog.

The pick: Giants 17, Patriots 13

Vince Mercogliano

The Giants surprised me (and I'm sure some of you) with a fairly lopsided win Sunday against Washington. Now they get another talent-bereft opponent in New England. Whether it's in their best interest is up for debate, but this is a very winnable game.

The pick: Giants 18, Patriots 15

Brian Marron

In a matchup featuring the two lowest-scoring teams per game, this Giants-Patriots game could make a push for toughest watch this year in the NFL.

Can Tommy DeVito keep the magic going for a second straight week, this time against a good Patriots defense? It is not impossible, but not likely.

Bill Belichick should be able to scheme against Saquon Barkley and handicap the Giants offense, as the large contingent of Big Blue fans upset at last week's win get their wish on Sunday. New York stays alive for a top-3 pick with an ugly-looking loss.

The pick: Patriots 20, Giants 6

Bob Jordan

This game has the lowest total for Week 12 at 33.5 and dropping (the number started at 34). They're not expecting Tommy DeVito to throw another three touchdowns?

The pick: Giants 28, Patriots 7

Dave Rivera

Tommy DeVito might be entering this game as the better of the game's two starting quarterbacks. Back home in Jersey after coming off a big game against Washington, DeVito will look to keep the momentum going. Trouble is, he's still facing a Bill Belichick defense. This is going to be a fun one.

The pick: Giants 22, Patriots 16

Chris Iseman

The improbable season of Tommy DeVito continues with a second-straight victory.

The pick: Giants 20, Patriots 13

Steve Edelson

The Giants have the worst net points in the league at minus-137, while the Patriots are third from the bottom at minus-97. And while both offenses have struggled badly, the Giants seemed to find a spark with Tommy DeVito against the Commanders. Look for Big Blue to give the fans a post-Thanksgiving win.

The pick: Giants 21, Patriots 14.
