Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

19:34

An incredibly entertaining match at the City Ground is decided by a mad two minutes late in the second half, with Chelsea overturning a deficit to beat Nottingham Forest 3-2. Pochettino’s side took an early lead through Mudryk’s rolled finish, but the visitors were pegged back almost immediately by Boly’s far-post header from a Gibbs-White set-piece. The match was stretched in the second half as both teams searched for a breakthrough, with Hudson-Odoi, Yates and Silva all hitting the frame of the goal. The former Chelsea winger would eventually get his angles correct however, with Hudson-Odoi curling a lovely finish into the far corner with a quarter-hour to go, giving the hosts something to hang onto. All their hard work would be undone at the 80th minute, thanks to Sterling’s close-range finish after cutting inside ahead of Aina, and the 82nd minute, when Jackson’s back-post finish into an empty net overturned the deficit and put the Blues 3-2 ahead. The win puts Chelsea level on points with Newcastle in sixth ahead of their penultimate match of the campaign on Wednesday, when they host Brighton and Hove Albion. Nottingham Forest are still not mathematically assured of their survival, but are three points clear of the drop and have a better goal-differential than Luton by 12. They will contest their final game of the season next Sunday, travelling to play Burnley. That concludes our commentary of the Premier League fixture between Nottingham Forest and Chelsea - we hope you’ve enjoyed it!

Gusto gets away from Danilo after Caicedo’s coolly played backheel pass in midfield, but the substitute’s cross is blocked by Aina, allowing Niakhate to get his head to it.

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

18:54

The change in defence for Chelsea allows Gusto to take his natural position at right-back, while Chalobah steps inside to play beside Silva. The substitute will be given full permission to get down the pitch and stretch the play in attack, while Cucurella occupies a central position - leaving the centre-backs somewhat isolated during the build-up play.

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

18:51

OFF THE POST AND OVER! INCREDIBLE! Hudson-Odoi takes on and beats Madueke on the left wing, eventually putting the ball onto his left foot and digging out a cross just ahead of the byline. Gibbs-White meets it at the far post with a diving header that sees the ball cannon off the post, with Wood somehow sending the follow-up over the crossbar from five yards out!

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

18:48

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

18:44

CHANCE! Silva clears Gibbs-White’s free-kick delivery at the far post, allowing Aina to run onto the loose ball in a central position. Nottingham Forest get the match restarted from the kick-off!

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

18:22

With Badiashile and Gallagher booked, and the threat of Hudson-Odoi and Gibbs-White’s pace ever-present, Pochettino may look to make a change in the middle of the park and protect his players. Colwill or Ugochukwu could be called upon, while Nkunku may be given a chance to influence the match at the top-end of the pitch in his return from injury. Awoniyi is an obvious replacement for Wood at striker for Nottingham Forest, while the hosts could further stretch the match by introducing Elanga. Yates has picked up a few knocks in the first half and could need replacing as the game wears on, with Dominguez able to control the tempo from midfield effectively.

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

18:22

45 minutes at the City Ground isn’t enough to separate Nottingham Forest and Chelsea, who head into the half-time interval level at 1-1, and almost equal on expected goals (0.69 to 0.73). The first opportunity of the game fell to Wood just two minutes in but Petrovic’s clever reading of the game denied the forward a goal in 120 seconds. Six minutes later, Chelsea were ahead, thanks to Mudryk’s clever finish after a Palmer assist; his 11th of the season. It wouldn’t be long before Nuno’s side pulled back level however, with Gibbs-White finding Boly alone at the far post from a free-kick to give the hosts the equaliser. Nottingham Forest were the more dangerous side by volume in the opening period, hitting 10 shots - three on target - despite seeing less than 30 per cent possession, while Pochettino’s team scored with their first effort and have only managed to test Sels twice.

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

18:22

HALF-TIME: NOTTINGHAM FOREST 1-1 CHELSEA.

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

18:21

Aina puts the ball out of play after Madueke is left on the ground holding his face after a tackle from Yates, which was well-timed by a bit awkward. The decision has been met by a chorus of boos from the home support, with the referee not signalling for a free-kick.

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

18:18

The fourth official indicates five minutes will be added to the end of the half for stoppages.

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

18:17

Palmer’s assist today takes him to 31 goal involvements (21 goals and 11 assists), which is level with Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins for the Premier League lead.

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

18:15

Palmer’s inswinging corner again towards the near post is popped up in the air by Gallagher, who pushes through the back of Chalobah in order to get his head to the ball. It’s a determined attempt from the midfielder but it’s easily plucked out of the air by Sels, who relieves the pressure.

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

18:13

Play is once again stopped for Yates, with the Nottingham Forest captain receiving wrapping and ice on his lower leg. He appears to have been caught accidentally by Montiel during an attempted sliding block on Badiashile’s shot, but should manage to see out the half.

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

18:12

Hudson-Odoi’s clearance from near his left corner-flag is intercepted rather easily by Badiashile on the far side, with the centre-back using the opportunity to have a go at goal. He strikes his shot cleanly but fails to trouble Sels, with the effort heading over the crossbar for a goal-kick.

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

18:09

With just under 10 minutes to go in the first half it’s anyone’s game, with both sides creating enough chances to put themselves ahead. Chelsea have been the more clinical side, but the hosts have managed to create a number of varied opportunities, putting Petrovic under pressure from different angles.

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

18:07

Gibbs-White again sends is free-kick to the far post, this time for Murillo, whose header across the face of goal is cleared by Jackson, almost on his goal-line.

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

18:03

Play is temporarily stopped for Yates, who appears to have had his foot stepped on unknowingly by Cucurella. The incident does receive a check from the VAR but there is no reason to believe it was malicious, as the game restarts with the hosts in possession.

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

18:02

Palmer plays another incisive pass through the lines, this time for Jackson, who meets the ball with a touch to lay it off for Cucurella. Looking to shoot, the full-back cuts inside onto his weaker right foot, where he’s dispossessed by Niakhate.

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

18:00

Cucurella seems to be taking up a central position, playing almost in between Caicedo and Gallagher in midfield. Chalobah has also closed ranks alongside Silva, with the visitors using a back three when building up from the back.

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

17:57

Six of Boly's seven Premier League goals have come from set-piece situations, while his sides have won just one of the previous six games in which he's found the back of the net, losing each of the last three.

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

17:55

CHANCE! Danilo’s inswinging corner is pushed towards the back post by the hand of Petrovic, who presents the ball to Wood. Unable to keep his effort down, the striker sends his headed effort just over the crossbar, with an empty net to aim at!

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

17:53

Gallagher drops back to receive a pass from Silva before switching play out to the left for Cucurella, who inexplicably gives up on the ball, allowing Montiel to walk over and collect it for a Nottingham Forest throw-in, which is greeted by a stern shake of the head from Pochettino.

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

17:51

Jackson drives forward with Mudryk to his left and Palmer to his right, but he inexplicably runs right into Boly, who easily dispossesses the forward - much to the frustration of his team-mates.

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

17:50

There is a long VAR check immediately after the equaliser, which somewhat cuts Boly’s celebration short, as there is a question of offside during the delivery. After holding play up for over a minute, the referee finally blows his whistle and points to the centre-circle, with the goal allowed to stand!

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

17:47

Assist Morgan Anthony Gibbs-White

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

Palmer’s inswinging corner is missed at the near post by Murillo, but Boly is able to scuff it forward from the edge of the six-yard box, allowing the aforementioned Murillo to charge away on a counter-attack.

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

17:43

Chalobah is dispossessed on the flank by Hudson-Odoi, with the former Chelsea winger immediately playing a pass into the penalty area for Wood. The striker’s first touch takes him towards the byline before he cuts a pass back that’s intercepted by Cucurella.

Aina winds up and heaves a long throw into the Chelsea penalty area, with Yates meeting the delivery near the penalty spot. It’s an excellent delivery from the Nottingham Forest wing-back, but the captain can only pop his header up and over the crossbar.

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

17:36

Nuno will be looking for his side to harness the raucous crowd support in their final home match of the season, with a draw all that’s required to guarantee safety. They’ve already generated an early chance and will be looking to ride the momentum and keep the pressure on the Chelsea defence.

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

17:35

GREAT SAVE! Boly plays a lovely pass over the top of the defence for Wood, who latches onto the ball inside the penalty area and looks to chip Petrovic, who anticipated the move and came off his line quickly to close down the angle and make the stop!

With 15 minutes to go before kick-off, let’s take a look at how the two sides are lining up - starting with our hosts!

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

17:08

Chelsea can make it three-consecutive wins with a victory over Nottingham Forest today, which would put them in a tie for sixth position on 57 points with Newcastle - who could only manage a draw against Brighton and Hove Albion earlier today. Despite their promising recent form, Mauricio Pochettino’s side have not been as productive when travelling, registering four draws and a 5-0 defeat to Arsenal in their last five matches away from Stamford Bridge.

Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea

17:03

Losses for Luton and Burnley earlier in the day gives Nottingham Forest the chance to secure their Premier League status ahead of the last day of the season, with a single point against Chelsea in their penultimate game enough to make it two-consecutive seasons in the top flight. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side ended a four-match winless run last time out, beating last-placed Sheffield United 3-1 - coming from behind in the process.
