Notre Dame Prep star the latest to move to national team

Scottsdale Notre Dame Prep point guard Brennan Peterson will play his senior season next year for Dream City Christian, a national prep team in Glendale, with hopes of improving his overall play and raise his college recruiting stock.

The 6-foot Peterson was injured early last season and played in 14 games, He averaged 16.2 points and 3.3 assists, while helping the Saints reach the Open Division state semifinals, before falling to Goodyear Millennium.

He had 24 points, making 3 of 7 3-pointers, in an 85-72 state quarterfinal win over Phoenix St. Mary's.

Mark Peterson, Brennan's dad, said that the move has nothing to do with Notre Dame recently dismissing coach Luke DallaRiva. Notre Dame Athletic Director Mike Mahan and DallaRiva have not returned messages from The Republic concerning the dismissal.

Peterson said that Notre Dame basketball parents were sent a letter from the school, informing them that DallaRiva was dismissed.

Peterson, however, said that his son's move to Dream City was to give him more arduous training and to play against better competition to prepare him for college.

"They've been recruiting Brennan for the last couple of years, and we just felt like now was a good time for him to take the opportunity and make the best of it," Mark Peterson said. "It's official. We notified both schools that he'll be leaving one and starting with the other.

"It's just a coincidence. I think some people are reporting we're leaving because the coach was fired and there's disarray at Notre Dame. And that just isn't true. He's leaving for a great opportunity that's in front of him."

Peterson becomes the third player in the last two weeks to leave the Arizona Interscholastic Association competition for the national prep academy scene.

Two weeks ago, Scottsdale Desert Mountain lost 2026 twins Kaden and Kalek House, who left for national prep powerhouse AZ Compass Prep in Chandler.

Peterson said his son will be playing in the Section 7 showcase at State Farm Stadium for Dream City.

Brennan Peterson spent the spring playing for Arizona Select, a club program run by John Ortega. He's added 12 pounds since last season and gotten stronger.

"We've turned down the (Dream City) offer the last couple of years," Mark Peterson said. "Brennan is a little bigger and stronger."

Peterson said his son has been working with trainer Sid Sharma, who works with some NBA players in Tempe.
