Notre Dame football: ESPN FPI Irish odds for remainder of season
In the oddly scheduled season Notre Dame has participated in for 2023, the Irish sit with just four games remaining while most of college football is just hitting their halfway point.
Notre Dame is fresh off a bye week as players and coaches had a much-needed break from the regular season grind this weekend. Will it help the Irish in the final four games down the stretch?
ESPN FPI puts out their chances of outcomes each week as they add data as the season goes on. Who would be favored in a certain matchup? By how much would a team be favored and how likely is someone at pulling an upset?
Here are ESPN’s FPI numbers for Notre Dame’s four remaining games for 2023.
Oct. 29 vs. Pitt
FPI odds of Notre Dame victory: 90.9%
Notre Dame was off this week and saw their chances at victory against Pitt go up by 1% according to FPI. A week after handing Louisville their first loss of 2023, Pitt was beat by Wake Forest, who earned their first ACC win of the year against the Panthers.
Nov. 4 at Clemson
FPI odds of Notre Dame victory: 55.2%
Clemson dropped their third game of the year this past week when they fell in double overtime at Miami. The FPI odds of a Notre Dame win increased from 52.6% a week ago to 55.2% today.
After not losing more than two games in any season from 2014-2020, this is the third year in a row Clemson has lost at least three games.
Nov. 18 vs. Wake Forest
FPI odds of Notre Dame victory: 93.5%
Notre Dame saw their odds of victory in the Sam Hartman Bowl go down ever so slightly this week. Wake Forest’s first ACC win of the year came against Pitt this past weekend while the Irish were off. Still, it tilted the odds of a Wake Forest upset to be just 0.2% more likely than a week ago.
Nov. 25 at Stanford
FPI odds of Notre Dame victory: 95.4%
Stanford was pasted by UCLA 42-7 this past weekend to fall to just 2-5 on the year. Notre Dame’s chances of a win increased from 93.8% to 95.4% as a result.
Notre Dame to Win Out?
FPI odds of Notre Dame winning out: 44.8%
It’s still a little short of a coin flip that FPI has for Notre Dame to win out and finish this regular season with 10 victories. It however did increase from a week ago when the possibility was given a 42.8% chance with the same amount of games remaining.
